Today’s Young Professionals, supported by the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, will connect, develop and grow Silicon Valley’s current generation of young professionals through network-building and professional development; economic and civic advocacy; and cultural engagement and community service. TYP will bridge three levels of professionals: established leaders, their successors (TYPs) and this generation from Silicon Valley’s educational institutions, with its pilot mentorship program set to launch in 2010.
And now a bit about San Jose, with a TYP slant:
Long thought of, especially by itself, as being in San Francisco’s shadow, San Jose seems to be coming back into its own these days. The HP Pavilion (formerly San Jose Arena) plays home to the world-class San Jose Sharks; while downtown plays home to luxury high rises like The 88, new eateries such as Billy Berk’s and cutting-edge events such as Left Coast Live.
Part of the thinking of the new downtown has TYP in mind. Upscale restaurants are popping up to compete with Santana Row. With the Row’s über-luxury boutiques like Gucci and Ferragamo, and super-trendy spots like Straits and Cielo, it’s seems San Jose looked in the mirror one day and said, “Wait a minute, I’m cool too…”
It’s unique chic spot between purely suburban and urban isn’t all San Jose provides. With 300+/- days of sunshine, outdoor possibilities abound. Numerous trails converge from the east, west and south toward the Bay, putting forth the possibility that one day one could ride from Coyote Valley to Alviso back to Los Gatos without encountering a single stoplight.
